Learning about my religion ~ Part 1

Updated: Apr 12, 2018

For a long time I have wanted to start learning more about my religion. I have decided to to a series for my blog on this to share what I learn with all you guys.

I have been meaning to start my Islamic education journey for a long time but didn’t know where to start and after much deliberation I have decided to start at the beginning... The Story Of Adam And Eve (Hawwah).

Some of you may know already that Allah (s.w.t) created Adam out of clay and taught him everything/the names of all things. From Adam’s soul God also created him a wife, Eve. God allowed them to live in paradise and have them free will.

When he had created Adam, god asked all the angels to bow down to them and all but one did. Shaitan (Satan) refused. Shaitan was a jinn, Allah almighty created him out of fire. He refused to bow down to Adam because he thought he was better him as he was made from fire.

God became angry at Shaitan’s pride and dropped him from his graces. He rejected the thousands of years of worship and threw him out of his court. However, shaitan asked god for respite. He wanted to mislead humans and make them commit sins to show god how unworthy Adam and his descendants are.

God granted him this respite and used him to test humanity until the day of judgement.

Shaitan is the vowed enemy of all humanity. But he still serves a purpose. This is to lure us away from God to see who can do as god wishes.

Our free will allows us to make the choice to do good and avoid bad, strengthening our relationship with Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.

Adam and Eve lived happily together in paradise. They could do as they pleased and were only forbidden to do one thing, eat the fruit of one tree. He told them if they did this they were wrongdoers.

One day Shaitan came and deceived them. He told them that the reason god had forbade them from eating the fruit off this tree is because I would make them immortal like angels.

They believed Shaitan and ate from the tree.

Ashamed of what they had done, the pair asked god for forgiveness and Allah (s.w.t) forgave them.

Side note : *Both Adam and Eve sinned together, there was no leader and one didn’t persuade the other. Many people believe that Eve was the first to have the fruit and convinced Adam to have some too. However, this wasn’t the case. People also believe that God curses women with the pain and burden of menstruation as well as the pain of childbirth due to Eve’s sin, but this also is fiction.

Menstruation is in fact a blessing as every moment of pain a Muslim goes through is rewarded by Allah and their sins are forgiven. This just show the closeness of women to their lord and proves they aren’t being punished.*

Back to the story - After the incident Allah removed Adam and Eve from paradise and put them on earth to live out the rest of their lives.
